Gala Angling Association will be holding an Open Day on 26 July from 11-3 at Tweedswood on the River Tweed. The day is free to attend and is aimed at youngsters who are keen to learn about fly fishing for trout. However, anyone with an interest in fly fishing or the River Tweed is welcome to attend.
Local anglers will provide help with tackle set up, fly casting and tactics for catching trout on the river. We will also have a biologist from the Tweed Foundation to provide some advice about river fly life.
Bring along your own equipment if you have it but we will have tackle that can be used on the day. Suitable footwear should be worn and, depending on the weather, waterproofs may be required as most of the activity will take place outside. There is no need for waders as much of the river can be fished from the bank at Tweedswood.
Please note that under 16s must be accompanied by an adult on the day. Tweedswood has a well-equipped fishing hut and toilet facilities are available. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide food on the day so please bring along a packed lunch.
Tweedswood can be found just off the A68 at Leaderfoot viaduct on the south side of the river. If you use Google maps, search for ‘Tweedswood Club House’ to find directions.
Please get in touch via the ‘Contact Us’ page if you want any more information.
Hope to see you on the 26th!
